Sunday Scribblings - The Walk

Hi...
I have a new illness! Everytime I take up the virtual pen to write a blog, I seem to develop this profound seriousness and come up with sad stories to write about..
I saw the prompt from Sunday Scribblings - Walk, and came up with a blog on a lady's walk of life.. her struggles, woes and fight for success against fate. It is a touching tale, and maybe I will post it later but today sagas like this are not my cuppa tea!
So thinking of pleasanter things...

I think of Nantu's first steps. Nantu took his time to walk. My MIL lamented everyday since he turned 11 months "Oh when will this boy walk!" We forbade her to try and make him walk with luring him or holding hands...
So he took his own sweet time. He wouldn't even walk holding furniture. Only in his crib wud he walk.. He ofcourse was a master at crawling, and even climbed full flights of stairs on hands and knees.. so I think in his mind there was no necessity to walk.
Then it happened.. when Nantu was 1 Year and a month old. Sadly MIL had gone to her hometown and was not around to watch that. On that day he held onto the bed and walked around it. Then the same day, he let go and walked upto me... I was so shocked! Here I had never seen my son attempt to walk at all, and all in one day he walks like he had been doing that for long!!
His first walk was a penguin style walking... with hands held apart.. to balance. I would thrust something in his held out hand and immediately he wud sit down... haha!! Needless to say I had so much fun with this (Mean Mommy!! Yeah)
Then slowly he got more confident.. and soon started running.. it seemed the running would never stop.. I lost weight running behind him.. I would grow dog tired.. but he would still be running!!

Now its at his worst.. he neither walks nor runs.. he jumps, climbs and tumbles...
As I watch him engage in rough play with dad... tumbling about.. I think of the day not so long ago (was it really only 2 years ago?) when he took his first step!

<12/2/2007>I wrote a poem on this at Baby Steps. It has been ages since I wrote poetry.. used this oppurtunity to give it a revival. Hope you like it, please give me your honest feedback.

He must have wanted to surprise you by walking when you least expected him to do so.

Nice poem preethi. My son who is 7 months old just rolls over the whole place. He can hardly sit unsupported for long. My daughter was very quick. So i too keep asking him innocently, why don't you do this and that. But i know a day like that will come by soon and we wonder the former was better. Have fun.

Chip was a late walker too and now I can't belive that he jumps and tumbles and is a regular explorer. guess, it doesn't matter in the long run!
